Many mechanical specialists of all stripes will force clients into purchasing unneeded parts & services at larger than needed prices.
Some people blame the specialists for these bad practices because they believe that these workers get bonuses. I can tell you as a victim on both sides of this, the problem almost always comes from stress rather than bonus incentive. I used to work for a retail pack & ship franchise. I was pressured to not mention lower cost services & I have been instructed to flat out fib about package insurance & arrival times. While getting my tires changed, a mechanic insisted that I had a dozen other big time troubles. Since several sole landlords & corporate bosses believe they will not be the 1s who get berated by customers, they pressure their workers to become con artists for them. Professionals should only do the job of a specialist, but the obsession with cutting records & beating the competition often times leaves the specialists in a place where they must be a flawless dealer & a leading salesman simultaneously. In the Heating & Air Conditioning industry, most businesses are honest, but prefer all other fields there are predatory practices. When somebody says your heater’s blower is bad, your Freon is low, or your compressor is not functional, be sure they thoroughly explain why & show you why, get another opinion from a friend or family member or Google these issues that they tell you. Do not buy an oversized AC unit. They cost more upfront & use more energy in the long term.
