It took me for what seemed like forever to be able to learn how to follow my budget. After nearly going bankrupt, and needing my parents to bail me out, I finally learned how to budget and keep my income more than my expenses. I don’t know if I thought the figures would miraculously meet at the end of the month, but I was a mess. Now, it’s quite an accomplishment when I am able to have some money left over at the end of the month. I now go over my bills and budget them carefully, but I am trying to overcome an insurmountable hurdle. My energy bills are unbelievably higher in the summer and winter than any other time of year. I know that it comes from the excessive use of heating and air conditioning. I like my comfort and not being able to have my thermostat at seventy in the summer, or at seventy-two in the winter, will leave me very uncomfortable. I know that I will need to learn to turn the thermostat up a few degrees in the summer and use less air conditioning and then in the winter, turn the thermostat down to maybe sixty-eight and not count on the furnace nearly as much. Isn’t that why I have summer and winter clothing?. Maybe if I can conserve energy by using less heating and air conditioning, I can keep my energy bills under control. I’ll also need to learn to take some of the money I have left over in the off months and save it toward the energy bills.
