When I was in college, I rented a room from this nice old lady. She was lonely, super sweet and basically mothered me. The rent was wonderfully cheap and the apartment was adorable. I would have remained living with her beyond graduation if it was not for the heating. Since she was older, her circulation was an issue. So the little old lady would blast the heating on the highest setting it would go. Her home would typically be maintained around 85 degrees all year round. What made it even worse was that I lived in the attic of the house. The heated air would rise and fill my apartment. In the Wintertime, I swear the place would be 100 degrees sometimes. I spent the majority of Wintertime walking around in my underwear with all of the windows wide open. In the Summer I went out and purchased multiple window air conditioners to combat the heat. Every window in the apartment was equipped with an air conditioner unit. Even with all of that cooling, I couldn’t manage the heat. I am pretty sure the woman had access to free natural gas. So why not run the gas furnace as high as possible? My little lady just loved having a really warm home. The weather outside never mattered to her thermostat setting. No matter the time of year, whether it was 50 or 72, humid or not, the heating plan would be running. While I enjoyed the low rent and the building owner, the heating was too much for me.
