With a bunch of kids and a pet to chase after all day, things can get pretty nuts around our house. Around every corner is a ball, a cup, a chew toy, someone’s pants, or any number of other things that I am constantly cleaning up. One day, my husband and I kept stepping in a puddle in the hall by the bathroom. We assumed it was from the youngsters somehow and just kept throwing down towel after towel. After the sixth time of stepping in the puddle in the same spot, we looked around and finally noticed the a/c was dripping water. We called up our local HVAC business, not excited about having to spend our money on whatever was broken in our unit, and were surprised when they told us to try something before having them send out a worker. The lady on the phone said to use a long “snake” like cleaning brush in the drain that was leaking and then to run some water down the cleanout cap to flush it out. Not really sure what the cleanout cap was, we gave it a shot and as it turns out our a/c was working like new. We called our HVAC service people back to thank them for helping us avoid an extra service bill. It was an awesome feeling to be able to handle this issue on our own, and not waste time and money on having someone else do what we easily could do ourselves. Of course the snake trick doesn’t always work, but it is encouraging to know that our local HVAC business cares enough to help us fix the problem without getting money out of it.
