My boss at the bar where I waitress sometimes was convinced that the bartender was stealing money from the tip jars and the register till. He had some cameras aimed at the registers, but he was unable to find a way to catch the bartender red-handed! My boss grew so thoroughly convinced that the bartender was taking money that he did something completely crazy and even out of character for him. See, there was a large heating duct in the wall at the end of the bar close to the main register. And so one night when the bartender was going to be closing up alone, our boss decided to unscrew the cover to the air ventilation duct and then climb inside to hide. He was just sure that he would catch the bartender stealing money from the till, and he wanted to see it with his own eyes. Of course, he would be peering from between tiny slits in a metal heating duct cover, but he didn’t even care. He climbed in and then he pulled the vent back into the right place behind him. Then he settled down to wait for the evening. He never saw any untoward action from the bartender all night! Then as a matter of fact, the bartender in question worked super hard all night. He even did everything according to the book. He cleaned up, closed down, counted all the money, made out the deposit, and then he even turned the heating down to the proper temperature on the temperature control. The bartender even noticed that the screws from the air ventilation duct for the Heating and Air Conditioning component were loosened. And so he got a screwdriver from the office to tighten them back down. This was hilarious because our boss ended up being stuck in the heating ventilation duct for the whole night on his spying mission – with nothing bad to spy on!
