Mowing grass was one of my chores in during the warm months while I was growing up. I grew up on 10 acres, so it generally took me about 5 hours to get everything mowed. This wasn’t the worst chore my parents could have given me, and it definitely wore me out. I didn’t like having to do it in the warm heat of summer. By the time I would finish, I all I wanted to do was rush to my room where I could crank the a/c on full blast. I can remember one time when I got in from a day of mowing only to find that the a/c wasn’t operating properly. It must have been nearly 100 degrees that day. I felt like I was going to pass out from the heat. I chugged a large glass of ice water before deciding to jump into a cool shower. That helped for a little while, but I eventually became overheated again. Instead of waiting on my father to get the a/c fixed, I decided to call up some of my friends to go see a movie. I knew that it would be cool in the theater. I don’t remember what movie we watched or whether or not I even enjoyed it, but I do remember the cool air coming from the a/c. It was so great that I nearly fell asleep. Summer nights like this make me nostalgic for the days of my youth. Still, I wouldn’t want to go back to having to cut grass in those conditions. It was way too hot for that!
