We all need a break

When I was in college, I rented a small apartment from this very nice old lady. She was rather lonely, sweet and pretty much mothered me. The rent was wonderfully cheap and the locale was great. I probably would have stayed with her past graduation if it was not for the heating. Since she was older, her circulation was not the greatest. This sweet, little old lady constantly cranked her heating to the highest setting it would go. Her home was always around 85 degrees throughout the year. What made it even worse was that I rented the  attic of her house. The heated air rose straight up into my apartment. During the Winter season, I swear the whole house would be 100 degrees. I spent most of the Winter months walking around in my underwear with the windows wide open. I went out and purchased six window cooling units, so that every window in the apartment had an air conditioner installed. Even with all of that extra cooling, I could not combat the heat. I am pretty sure my landlord had free ga. So why not run the gas furnace at all times at the highest setting? No older person should ever have free gas.  The weather outside never mattered to her thermostat settings. No matter the weather, if it was snowing or hot and humid, the heating system was running. I liked the low rent, and I loved my landlord, but the overuse of the heating system eventually got to be too much for me.
