Periodically, life can be absolutely difficult, especially if you have to live from paycheck to paycheck. With three boys, multiple cats, and a mortgage, it can be hard to keep up with things at home. My partner and I barely make enough income to pay for all of the things we need in the house. When an emergency arises, we are often left wondering how to afford all of life’s surprises. This was the case last month, when the air conditioner was giving us some trouble. It seemed that the house was warmer than usual, despite the fact that the air conditioner was running continuously. My partner changed the air filter, and made sure the coils were free of debris and dirt.Still, we could not sense any chilly air emitting from our vents. I checked the bank account, and found 86 dollars available. The two of us still had three mornings until payday, and no gas in the van. We needed bread, milk, and animal food. There was no extra money in the bank account to contact the local Heating, Ventilation & A/C shop, so we did our best to make do with the situation. The air conditioner still functioned poorly, and we were forced to call a professional a few mornings later. Luckily, they allowed us to receive service and write a post dated check for the service fees. It was a little more than a hundred dollars to have the air conditioner machine repaired. That was cash we did not have to spend on the air conditioner unit; and for the next multiple weeks, we had to eat cheap foods like Ramen noodles, spaghetti, and hot dogs.
