My family and I recently purchased an old country grocery store in a quaint little town. The grocery business had moved out of the area to the big chain stores. So, we got it for a very good price and decided to turn it in to our home. It was a two story building with office space on top and the actual grocery on the bottom. We thought it would be great renovated into a living space. Being that the building was over fifty years old, there wasn’t much in the way of an HVAC system. There was an old wood stove on the bottom level and the odd window air conditioning unit. Upstairs there was nothing resembling and HVAC unit. We chose to make the first floor the living quarters, kitchen and master bedroom. That left the top of the old store for my kids rooms. They were all troopers but, I knew they could not handle living up there without any heating or cooling. I contacted an HVAC company to help me figure out a solution. The heating and cooling guy came out and looked over our situation. I told him that we could handle a year of wood stove and window A/C on the main floor. However, we were in need of a quick resolution to the HVAC issues on the second floor. Our new HVAC contractor suggested we use a mini-split ductless heating and cooling system. I had seen these on TV but wasn’t so sure. But, once it was installed, I was quite impressed. The ductless system was able to heat and cool the entire second floor. I’m very thankful because I simply had to take care of my children.
