I’ve heard a few interesting things about the characteristics of people from particular regions of our country, and I guess it’s interesting that people can be generally categorized by the place where they reside. For instance, I’ve heard that people from the west are easily laid back and nice to deal with, folks from the east coast tend to be a little up tight, and those who come from the midwest are hardy. Now, I can’t talk much about the first two generalizations, although I do guess that the midwest temperature produces some hard cookies; the constantly shifting temperatures toughen you up hastily, but I’m not going to miss it. All year long you are at the mercy of the weather, and often end up trapped inside, relying really on your Heating, Ventilation, and A/C system to keep yourself alive… During the warm season the sunlight makes the outdoor air sweltering and muggy, and there’s no way to get by separate from using your A/C every moment of the morning. It’s especially hard to sleep because the temperatures never break, and there’s rarely a breeze… Then the wintertime rolls around and swiftly it’s well below freezing for months on end, so your oil furnace has to run overtime just to keep your indoor air at a livable temperature, and the air quality gets poorer and poorer as the season progresses. It gets stale and dry, and it’s easy to imagine spring will never return. This constant Heating, Ventilation, and A/C use is pricey and uncomfortable, however not nearly as bad as stepping outdoors feels for most of the year.
