My good buddy went on a mission trip overseas, and the idea was to serve people who needed her medical knowledge, so she joined an expedition to work in a hospital in a different country! She was expecting the conditions to be worse than they are here in our country, of course, because why else would they need her? However, she told me she was entirely shocked to find that the hospital she went to work in has entirely no air conditioner or heating. The heating is not as vital, according to her, because the temperature is warm most of the year. She let me know that heat encourages the growth of germs, so being without air conditioner is detrimental. She said she was upset to see that even the operating rooms in the hospital did not have air conditioner, but in fact, just to keep the others from passing out from the heat, they opened the windows in the operating rooms and also used box fans on the floor, but everyone there knows that box fans plus open windows just allow foreign bodies to be introduced to the environment and will ruin the sterile room; Air conditioning is much more needed in a hospital… My buddy is certain that some people are dying after surgery because they get infections because there is no way to air condition the building so windows allow dust as well as everything else inside, but now my buddy has started a fundraising campaign to get air conditioner installed in the hospital where she just worked. It’s good for her!
