Where I grew up, there were no Spring, Fall and Winter seasons. It was Summer and hot all year round. So you could imagine the hard time I had when I moved up north, where every season is clearly defined and the weather changes all year round. I was renting a one bedroom apartment that had a window AC unit. I had never seen one of those before, because my parent’s house had a HVAC system installed through the whole home and it stayed at one temperature almost all year, 75 degrees. I had to quickly figure out how it worked. When it was hot outside, I had to put cool air on and when it was cold, I put on hot air. It took me a while to get used to the changes in temperature outside. I had to incorporate a new wardrobe because all of my clothing was summer clothes. I had to buy coats, scarves, boots, the whole nine yards. I learned that my electricity bill was a lot cheaper with the AC window unit as opposed to the whole HVAC system installed in my parents home. Overall, the change to a new state, a new climate, a new home was just that; a change. It took some time to get used to, but now a year and half later, I’ve gotten used to it and I actually like it. The seasons are beautiful. I can explore new fashion options. The window unit is not so bad, other than the fact that it can be super loud at times. Some change can be really good!
