My sister Naomi thought the two of us could install radiant floors in a day. My sister is sort of cheap! When she needed a furnace, she decided not to spend money for a professional oil furnace upgrade, she roped me into helping her set up the radiant floors. First, my sister is a bit overconfident on my contractor skills… I don’t suppose that I have the expertise or skills to do a radiant oil furnace set up. I have never handled boiler systems, piping or flooring before. I am not sure if I can do it separate from really messing something up! Next, my sister planned only a weekend for our upgrade. To do heated flooring upgrade, a lot of things need to be done. First, the tiles all have to be ripped out. The whole flooring is removed plus the house is not able to be used. After this, a boiler plan should be dragged plus hooked up in her basement. Then, the piping is installed from the boiler plus extended into the flooring. The boiler will heat oil and the oil flows through piping. This creates hydronic radiant floors. Then, the tiling needs to be put overtop of the pipe. I don’t suppose Naomi and I can do this in a single day. I especially don’t suppose that we can handle this work. We really need several other helpers. They would be handy carrying that large boiler plan to the basement. It also would be nice having other hands when hooking up the piping! But, my sister doesn’t want to spend money hiring anyone else. So it looks like it is going to be her and I messing with this.
