St Petersburg is a city in the middle of Florida, and also a city in the middle of Russia. The two cities actually named St. Petersburg, vary in many different ways. St Petersburg, Florida is located in the lower West quadrant of the state. The average summer temperatures are well above 90 degrees, with high humidity and little rain. St Petersburg, Florida is home to many miles of pristine beaches, world famous restaurants and attractions, and the famous Fort De Soto state park. Fort DeSoto Park is one of my favorite places to visit in Pinellas County. Fort DeSoto Park offers a variety of activities in St Petersburg, Florida. The park has more than a thousand acres of interconnected Islands. You can find mangroves, native plants, and many different species of Wildlife. Strangely enough, there are more than 300 different bird species in Fort Desoto State Park. There is plenty of camping available with full service facilities. There are miles of paved trails that connect all of the islands. There are many different activities to enjoy inside of the park, including a picnic area, self guided Trail, and a boat launch area. There are even two large fishing piers for the angler enthusiasts. There are many species of fish that can be harvested throughout the year. If you find yourself in the St. Petersburg, Tampa area, I would suggest taking a day to explore the area state parks. Fort DeSoto State Park is my favorite, but there are at least a dozen other family friendly parks in the area. There is much to see and do, and these state parks are an inexpensive family activity.
