I have always had great neighbors before I bought my house. Ever since I graduated high school, I lived in apartments. My wife and I recently decided to buy a house after our wedding. Even when living on the bottom floor of an apartment building, I never had concerns with noisy neighbors upstairs, next door, nor even in floors below the few times I lived above ground level. It was always easy to make friends with nearby tenants. In one of my apartments, the building was so close that we even had a few cookouts and potluck dinners throughout the year! With those memories fresh in my head, I was shocked the day I met my new next door neighbor. I had just finished emptying the moving truck plus was still in the process of unpacking and getting the house set up. I walked outside for a moment to bring in the rest of our boxes when a man walked over my tiny fence plus started angrily jogging towards me. He had gaudy gold chains swinging like crazy around a severely sunburnt neck while his face was half swallowed by a big pair of fake, white Oakleys sunglasses. He never introduced himself plus never said hello; he just cut right to the chase. With an attitude, he asked me if I ever intended to make any kind of noise that might annoy him. According to him, the previous owners of our house constantly had their Heating plus A/C condenser running, so he was stuck listening to it kick on and off throughout the day. The guy likes to live out on his lanai where he chain smokes from dusk to dawn, so he rarely runs the a/c in his loft plus assumes everyone else does the same. It took only 2 days before I found him pounding on my front door in only a speedo plus those comically big Oakleys. He said he kept hearing my Heating plus A/C condenser run while he sunbathed, even though it had only cycled twice in the last hour. I have a feeling we won’t be doing any neighborhood cookouts anytime soon.
