Youth fitness

I happen to be the superintendent for a small university system in the northeastern area of the country.

For most of the university year, the weather is entirely cold, rainy, snowy & downright brutal. There honestly is no choice however but to spend the majority of time indoors. The students become far more sedentary. They tend to kneel in front of cable television & computer screens! Despite attending gym class, our students were not getting enough exercise. We’ve taken measures to better the nutritional value of the foods every one of us offer & items available in the vending machines, however most of the students bring their own types of food to university. I frequently spot students eating cookies, candy, cupcakes & donuts. They constantly drink sugary soft drinks with their meals. A large amount of our students appear to be overweight & are at risk of extreme health troubles! Unwilling to kneel back & do nothing, I tried educating the parents about this. I supplied evening classes centered around nutritional counselling. I brought in a certified fitness trainer to speak to all the people & share information. At a single one of these meetings, a parent asked about offering regular fitness classes to the students as a critical part of an after-university program. I wasn’t sure how successful this type of program with be with the students. I was easily surprised when every one of us had such a high enrollment in the fitness program that every one of us needed to break up the different students by age. The people I was with and I now have a personal trainer providing a fitness class after-university often throughout the week. The students regularly show up in the gym & participate in all sorts of unusual exercises. I am hoping to continue this fitness program & maybe we will be able to expand.
