No 1 would accuse my work as being fancy, but it’s not terrible work.
The way I see it if I can get a decent wage, a set time to work with weekends off, and more than one week of paid vacation each year, so who am I to complain? I am regular handyman, a custodian, and standard jack of all trades for the apartment building where I rent out.
I handle emergencies when they come up, but otherwise work a normal 9 to 5 job around the building. I have a couple of dudes that task for me now, and they aren’t that great. Neither 1 of them know the first thing about a/cs. I never went to school for AC repair, so everything I know about fixing cooling systems are from trial and error. It all comes from in-field experience. I have been on the job a long time, so over the years I’ve received a few things about heating and cooling systems. These young guys will get it eventually I hope. They just don’t get a lot of chances to fool around with them since I tend to handle all the Heating, Ventilation, and A/C issues that come up. I have learned how to service the AC systems since I do it all the time. You have to fail a bunch of times while figuring out how to do it right. Maybe 1 day the manager will pay to send them to take some Heating, Ventilation, and A/C classes, but in the meantime the crew of us can’t have them doing any issues. They can change out air filters and clean the air vents, but any big Heating, Ventilation, and A/C task has to go through me.
