When I moved into my apartment, I had no idea how naive I truly was to the problems and complications of adulthood.
- There were so many little things that I had no idea how to handle, and there were many times when I had to call my father to ask for advice about something that had recently happened.
For example, during the Winter, my furnace suddenly stopped working. It was during a pretty cold night of the year, and I immediately began to panic. I knew that I couldn’t afford to replace or repair anything expensive, so I called my dad to see what he could figure out. He took me through a few steps to diagnose simple problems that could have caused my furnace to stop working, but it seemed like the problem was more complicated than he understood. He recommended that I call an HVAC company, and soon I had a secretary on the phone promising that an HVAC technician would be at my house in 15 minutes. When he arrived, I told him that I would pay him for his service call, but if it was anything expensive, I would have to put off repairing my furnace until I could save enough money. The HVAC worker found the problem, and he told me that he could fix it with only one part and a few hours of labor. The cost was a bit pricey, but the HVAC worker asked his boss if I could pay the bill in payments so that I could have a working furnace by the end of the day. I am so grateful for the HVAC worker and his company, and I am also much warmer now that my furnace is working again!
