Our unit was in constant need of repair, and we relied heavily on the HVAC industry to make sure our air conditioner was properly serviced and properly maintained.
My childhood home was a modest townhouse located in a quaint part of town. As far as I knew, it was the center of the world. In retrospect, it was a rather homely home. I remember the terracotta tiles of the roof and Mediterranean motif as if it were just yesterday. A “villa,” they called it. I still remember how to get there even though the models were eerily similar in appearance. Back towards the end of the 1990s, our summers were brutal; there were commercials for A/C repair and tons of HVAC technicians servicing neighborhood units. Billboards lined the highways, and on them were clever slogans and taglines advertising all sorts of HVAC repair companies. The sun was so bright and hot, we could hear it humming in our ears along with the quiet drone of lawnmowers and sprinklers. Our air conditioner was a beast of a machine, and she stood no chance against the scorchers we experienced in my hometown. We had one of the clunkiest, noisiest, most unreliable air conditioners imaginable yet I still fondly remember the rhythmic whir of the motor as it lulled me to sleep. Our unit was in constant need of repair, and we relied heavily on the HVAC industry to make sure our air conditioner was properly serviced and properly maintained. Despite our shortcomings in climate control, we survived just fine thanks to the competent folks in the HVAC industry. Thankfully, our new place is equipped with a much more modern air conditioning system that was, of course, installed by professionals. There’s nothing quite like coming in from the hot outdoors to a cool house. You know it’s good when it sends that chill down your spine!
