Autumn is one of my personal favorite times of the year. It’s a beautiful transitional period between the harsh heat of summer and the bitter cold of the winter. Depending on where you live, autumn also provides an excellent time to prepare for the coming months’ weather conditions. In the majority of the United States, consistent and reliable heating is as important a necessity as food and water. Ensuring your heating system is up-to-date and ready for the most extreme conditions is the difference between a cozy holiday season and a news headline. Air conditioning has become a dependable luxury that most have taken for granted. Thermostat care is perhaps the most important starting point. Regardless of your level of expertise in running serious home heating equipment, there’s about a 100% chance you will interact with a thermostat. While mechanical repair and inspection is a component of home heating best left to professionals, testing a thermostat is something anyone with internet access can do. Once the thermostat has been evaluated to the extent of one’s ability, have a professional come inspect the entirety of the unit for any defects, damages, or anything else that requires repair in order to ensure proper function of the unit. By being proactive about heating, we greatly reduce our chances of a winter emergency during the harshest parts of the season. A little bit of hard work now will pay off in the long run. It’s better to be safe than sorry when it comes to your comfort.
